Electricians – FAQ

Start with arc-appropriate clothing (see Q2), protective-toe boots that meet the AS/NZS 2210 series, good grip gloves for handling cable and switchgear, breathable work shirts or polos, and hi-vis garments where site rules or risk assessments require it.
If your risk assessment identifies arc-flash exposure (common in switchboards and LV/MV work), you’ll need arc-rated (AR) clothing tested to IEC 61482-2 and selected in line with AS/NZS 4836. Choose garments with an ATPV/ELIM rating that meets or exceeds the calculated incident energy for the task. Non-melting base layers are recommended under AR outerwear.
For high-risk environments, choose hi-vis garments that align with AS 4602.1:2024 (garment design/classification) and AS/NZS 1906.4 (retro-reflective materials). The 2024 update clarified day/night classes and added explicit coverage requirements for lower garments (e.g., pants and coveralls). Pick Day, Night or Day/Night based on your site’s lighting and vehicle risk.
Select work boots compliant with AS 2210.3:2019 (part of the AS/NZS 2210 series). Look for protective toe caps (steel or composite), slip resistance, and electrical-risk features as required by your risk assessment. Always follow site rules for sole patterns and water resistance.
  • Non-decorated stock: Please allow 1-5 working days for delivery (subject to stock and delivery address).
  • New decorated orders: Please allow 10-15 working days from artwork approval.

Repeat decorated orders: Please allow 7-10 working days from approval.
Please note: Lead times can vary with stock availability, peak demand, order volumes and decoration requirements.

Yes, most workwear (shirts, polos, jackets, hi-vis vests and some pants) can be branded with embroidery or screen print. We'll suggest the best method for each fabric and place logos to avoid reflective tape or waterproof seam seals.

Yes, with care. Embroidery needles can compromise waterproof membranes, and large prints over AR fabrics may affect breathability. We use decoration methods and placements that avoid reflective tape, seam seals and critical AR zones; heat-transfer or patches are often preferred on shells.

"FR" means the fabric resists ignition/continues burning. "AR" (arc-rated) is FR and tested for electric-arc thermal energy (ATPV/ELIM). For arc-flash risk, choose AR-rated garments that match the calculated incident energy, FR alone is not enough.

Use non-melting base layers under AR outerwear. Avoid untreated synthetics next to skin. For cooler conditions, add AR-rated mid-layers so the full system maintains the required arc rating. Your total protection depends on the system, not just one garment.
Yes, women’s-fit pants, shirts, hi-vis and boots designed for better range of motion when squatting, kneeling and reaching around boards and ceiling spaces.

For general handling, pick cut-resistant gloves with good dexterity and dry/wet grip. Electrical insulating gloves for live work are specialised PPE with specific testing/inspection regimes, source to the applicable requirements via your safety manager and standards referenced in AS/NZS 4836.

Mandates come from site rules and your risk assessment. Where there's plant/vehicle movement or low-light work, select garments compliant with AS 4602.1:2024 in the correct class (Day, Night, Day/Night). We can recommend options based on your job type and hours.

Wash inside-out on a gentle cycle with mild detergent; avoid bleach and fabric softeners (they degrade reflective tape and finishes). Line-dry out of high heat. For AR gear, follow the manufacturer’s care label to preserve arc performance.

Choose lightweight electrician workwear with venting and moisture management, plus Day-class hi-vis where required. Pair with breathable safety boots (composite toe can reduce fatigue) and quick-dry socks. Ensure any lightweight choice still meets the AR requirement if your tasks involve arc risk.

Yes, starter kits that can include AR shirts, work pants, compliant hi-vis, safety boots and suitable gloves. We can brand items and split-deliver to multiple sites with clear labelling.

We can’t replace a formal risk assessment, but we’ll map your tasks (switchboard work, testing, terminations, fault finding) to appropriate garment choices, then suggest product options.
